Outdoor fun at Dragon Playground @ Toa Payoh

It was a cloudy cool morning! After a visiting at Bishan, we decided to check out the nearby heritage Dragon Playground at Toa Payoh.

The past weekends were filled with rain and wet grounds so it certainly felt like a great indulgence for Emma to be finally playing outdoors! We still love shopping malls and indoor playgrounds but I find it recharging to be running, swinging, jumping and sliding under the sun once a while!

Emma's a big fan of playgrounds and she could easily spend 30-60 mins at a playground. So whenever we have the time, I always love to bring her to the outdoor playground. Besides being a place where she can grow her muscles and have fun, the playground is also where she has learnt her confidence, observation skills, problem solving, creativity and social skills. Most importantly, it's free!

Dragon Playground @ Toa Payoh

Address: Blk 28 Toa Payoh Lorong 6

The four blocks around this Dragon Playground were torn down but this iconic dragon-shaped sand-based playground managed to escape a demolition. So, it thought it might be worth a visit. And yes, indeed it was!

The sand-based playground is made up of a majestic dragon and two little plastic rides. One can get up the dragon by the ladder or through the long body of the dragon that is made of steel rails and down the dragon by the two slides.

To my greatest surprise, Emma wasn't daunted by the unfamiliar strange structure of this playground at all. She hit straight to the long body of the dragon, and walked confidently through the steel rails passage way without any hesitation. She went up and down the Dragon countless times and played with the sand happily.

It was such a joy to watch her play! While it's not as hygienic and safe (without the rubber mats) as the modern playgrounds, I was glad that Emma has grown stronger in terms of her immunity, health and physique to conquer this iconic playground. However, she did take a long 3 hour afternoon nap to recharge after the play!
